Razorlight Live on the roof of The Bricklayers Arms

Friday night, 7pm at Old St Station in London.
No need for a map, it's pretty obvious where
where to go.
You just need to follow the trail of scruffy
haired, baggy-jeaned, front man lookalikes.
Or Heroin Chic rockchicks.
Razorlight are playing on the roof of a pub
to promote their new album out on June 21st.
There's quite a buzz about them.
Most of the people walking to the gig didn't
know much of their music apart from
a few demos that are floating around on the net.

But with their new single "Golden Touch"
getting some good airplay and write ups
hailing them as the next to assume the
Brit Rock mantle (even though one of
them's from Sweden), are Razorlight
about to spring from nowhere to be the next
UK household name?

As the crowd gathered the buzz was already electric.
Word was floating around that some of the Libertines were on the street
and all eyes were desperately star spotting.
Perched on every ledge and with the street closed off to traffic,
Razorlight kicked off the gig with "Stumble and Fall"
followed quickly by "Golden Touch".
The tone was set and the fans lapped it up
making plenty of noise between each song.
The sound wasn't perfect from street level and you couldn't see anything
but that's not what it was about. It was about the moment and the scene.
A precocious new band doing a "Beatles".
Certainly, good PR.

There was not much space to thrash about on but Razorlight rocked the best they could.
Playing through tracks from the new album, it's easy to see why they're quickly gathering momentum so quickly on the scene.
They fit right in there with the Strokes, Leons and Jets.
And as if Razorlight are like, our answer to those bands, the kids are having no problem calling it their own and getting behind them.
It was a lovely night in the City and this was the perfect evening for drinking a beer on the summer street and checking out a new band
who look as if they could go all the way. With The Libertines going banzi on us at every opportunity who knows Razorlight just might
have arrived at just the right moment to steal limelight.

Check out the album out on June 21st.
