WELCOME TO THE VIDEOS DVD
Guns N' Roses 'WELCOME TO THE VIDEOS'.
OK I know this band needs no introduction
and they are 'PLAYERS' in the rock music universe.
However, I have been asked to do a review of the DVD and it is a pleasure to
do so.
The DVD gives us an insight into why Guns N' Roses are so huge with millions
of fans worldwide.
The guys in the band are true 'Rock
Stars' and it oozes from every pore in each video. They pose and strut like
all the greats.
Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, Robert Plant and Marc Bolan to name but a few.
It is easy to see how kids young and old just dream of being Slash standing
on stage playing like an axe god, or Axel belting out the lyrics with his unique
voice, the epitamy of superstar frontman.
The one thing I like about the DVD is that it shows clearly the real diversity in their music. They are not just a heavy rock band. However, as a heavy rock band they have no equal as is clear from the opening two videos 'Welcome to the Jungle' and 'Sweet Child of Mine'. There cannot be a jukebox anywhere in the world that didn't have these two tracks on in their time!!
But would those same jukeboxes have
them performing 'Since I don't have you' ??
I wonder !!
I have another recording of that song performed by Art Garfunkel !!
Obviously, the two acts are poles apart in terms of genre but what I like about
the G N' R version is that they sound great performing it.
It is a natural song for them to do. They make it their own. In my opinion you
have to be special to pull that off.
Another highlight for me is 'Patience'.
A beautiful acoustic love song.
I also love 'The Garden'. However, that has a lot to do with the fact that the
great Alice Cooper is a guest vocalist.
By the way did Slash borrow 'The Coops' snake in the 'Patience' video ??
My favourite Guns n' Roses track is 'Live and Let Die' and the video for this shows why they are one of the most exciting bands to see live on stage.
This collection is a must for the
fans.
If you should be an outsider looking in, wondering what all the fuss is, about
Guns N' Roses or rock n roll in general, then you should buy it too.
The answer is plain to see.
Remember that line in film "That'll be the Day"?............
"You show me a kid who never wanted to be a rock n roll star, and I'll show
you a liar"
